Channel Rotary works closely with the local community providing funds and hands-on help.
We are part of Rotary International, a non-religious, non-political organisation that’s open to all races, colours, genders, and political preferences. As one of the largest service organizations in the world Rotary’s mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace. By meeting together experience new activities, enjoy the company of others and have an impact on the local community in a positive way.

In Great Britian & Ireland alone, there are some 1600 clubs.
We are serious about what we do but don’t take ourselves too seriously.
Our foundations are strong fellowship, common purpose and a lot of enjoyment.

We have fun while we work, as well as arranging fund raising events, we have time to arrange social gatherings for members, their partners and friends.

Would you like to help in our community and enjoy developing friendships while meeting and working with like-minded people?  Joining Channel Rotary is a great way of doing this.  Each Rotary Club aims for a wide variety of experience and skills in its members so that it can react quickly and effectively when needs arise.

Channel Rotary is one of two clubs in Folkestone and meet on Wednesday evenings.  In 40 years we’ve raised £1m for local, national and international causes but we have also been there to provide hands-on help too.  The funds go to a large number of good causes of all sizes from well known charities like MIND, Age UK and Pilgrims Hospice to other smaller groups and individuals that also do essential work in our community, ranging from Sports Clubs to Schools, Young Carers and Foodbanks.

Recently we raised over £50k by organising just four events: The Folkestone Channel Triathlon, Romney Marsh Bike Ride, Charity Golf Day and a Charity Sleep Out. These events not only raise funds but they promote our local area and encourage health and fitness.
Everyone joins in, including our volunteers and helpers.  This provides great satisfaction and a lot of time for members and their partners to socialise and enjoy themselves.

We are always searching for new ways to help in the community and for new friends to share the pleasure with.  Key areas include:

  • How can we support the youth of our town?
  • How can we help in promoting talented young people in our schools?
  • How to discover new areas of need where we can help; not just with money but through our skills and expertise?
  • How can we use new technology to increase our ability to raise funds and generally serve the community?

A new generation is joining us, finding new ways to continue our ethos of service to others in the demands of modern times.

Your skills and experience doubtless could be invaluable as we endeavour to help communities at home and around the world. Whether you become a member or volunteer your time and abilities to your local club as a Friend, you will be helping to make people’s lives better. Whilst at the same time giving you the opportunity for fellowship and friendship with like minded people.
